"The old road" from Revúca to Železník.
Železník together with Sirk is a long-forgotten location of one of the largest iron ore deposits in Austro-Hungary. However, the genius loci still lives on and is present at every step.
Mandatory photo documentation: at the toll track in Železník.
Author’s recommendation
In the village of Železník, be sure not to miss the Kolkáreň, the new tourist lookout, or the building of the historic cinema in the Ladislav part, where the portal of the most significant mine adit is also located. A few meters from the cinema at the forest entrance is a spring of drinking water. For tourists, there are information boards and a relaxation zone. The surrounding area offers a beautiful view of the valley and surrounding hills. At the end of the route, in Sirk, do not miss the Hussite chapel, currently under renovation.
About 3 km from the village of Sirk is the Červeňany Blast Furnace, one of the most significant mining monuments in Gemer and part of the European Iron Route. We recommend visiting it if you have the strength.

Tips and suggestions
Roadbook
The route starts in Revúca at the tourist information center, from where we head along Muránska street towards Jelšava, after the bridge we turn right and join the marked blue tourist route, which takes us via Železničná street and then Priemyselná street out of town. Beyond Revúca, on a low-traffic asphalt road, we climb serpentines to the Hlaviny saddle and then to Železník. Right in Železník, several objects from the mining past are worth noting. To Sirk it is just a descent on the asphalt road.
