The route takes us from the Salzkammergut to the Auseerland, over the Viehbergalm into the Ennstal valley, up to Ramsau and via the Tennengau tourist region back again to Lake Hallstatt. It passes through three Austrian federal states: Salzburg, Upper Austria and Styria. If you have the appropriate fitness level, the 174 km and 4000 meters of elevation can be covered in three days.

    Author’s recommendation

On this route, you almost always have the Dachstein glacier in view. So: don't forget your camera!

    Stage 1:
At the foot of the Pötschenpass, you ride a short stretch on the main road in St. Agatha at Lake Hallstatt and then turn left after the bridge onto the old, initially steep Pötschenstraße. You follow this, passing Sarstein, up to the pass summit. Then a forest road branches off to the right to Höheralm and down to Sommersbergsee. From here, it continues on an asphalt road to Bad Aussee. Over Pichl-Kainisch, you mostly continue on forest roads to Mühlreith, to Steinitzenalm, and through the alpine valley further to the Salzastausee near Bad Mitterndorf.
Before the fast descent to Gröbming, you should enjoy the unique view of the Dachstein glacier from the Viehbergalm.

    Stage 2:
From Gröbming/Öblarn, you take a natural path via Pruggern to Moosheim and continue on the Ennstal bike path to Aich. Over a steeply ascending forest path, you reach the "Burgstaller", from where it is a relaxed descent to Ramsau am Dachstein.
On forest roads, over meadows and asphalt, a varied path leads further south uphill to Kulmberg. Once again, you should pause and enjoy the mountain scenery all around. On a trail, you proceed sportily via Filzmoos and the Lahneggsattel downhill into the Lammertal.

    Stage 3:
First, you follow the Lammer further before heading uphill towards Zwieselalm with a view of the south side of the Dachstein glacier. Over the Hornspitze, you descend rapidly through the forest on beautiful trails along the Hornlift to Rußbach. With the ascent to the Gschütt Pass, the last kilometers of the tour begin. At the end of this multi-day tour, you will greatly enjoy the long descent to the shore of Lake Hallstatt before cycling the final stretch back to St. Agatha, the starting point, along the beautiful lakeside bike path.
