Mountain bike route 4a Hochspeyer (short route)
Great route with many singletrails through the Pfälzerwald
At the beginning, we roll through Hochspeyer, past the swimming pool, before climbing right away, first on side streets, then on an easy forest trail in dense woods. At the crossing of the B48, we conquered the first ascent. Now we bike along a narrow path often covered with leaves before coming to Waldleiningen via alternating paths. It goes via a forest road to Wolfsohl. Now follow singletrails over the Eselsohler Berg and the Hohe Loog. In parts very demanding with hairpin bends, it goes down into the Leinbach valley. Special attention should be paid to not shortcut the hairpins and to follow the path. Afterwards, we bike the most challenging climb of this route to Schlossberg via the so-called “Frankensteiner Monster Trail.” This ascent is steep and technically demanding. Small bays offer spots to catch your breath and take a new run-up. The reward for this effort follows promptly with a long descent to Frankensteiner Castle with a beautiful view of Frankenstein. After a short up and down, we ride another trail descent to Kaninchenheim, then bike back to the Hochspeyer train station on a trail and a short street section, which is our endpoint.
OUR PATHFINDER RULES
“Get out of everyday life – into nature!” A few basic rules help make the MTB route a sustainable experience for people and nature.
- Only ride on allowed paths. According to the Rhineland-Palatinate State Forest Law, cycling on footpaths and hiking trails is not permitted, except for the trails on our routes.
- Leave no trace. Take your trash home and protect our trails through your riding style. Avoid braking with locked tires. Do not shortcut hairpin bends.
- Keep your bike under control. Stay in your comfort zone, adjust speed to the respective situation, and be able to stop within sight! Do not underestimate the technical and fitness demands of our routes. Inform yourself in advance.
- Respect other path users. Announce your arrival in good time, preferably with our pathfinder bell! Do not ride on certified hiking trails. Show consideration on paths shared by walkers and mountain bikers. Walkers have priority. Let other users pass.
- Show consideration for animals in the forest. We move in their habitat. Give them peace and do not disturb their feeding. Avoid rides at dusk or during the night.
- Do not build illegal trails. Use existing, approved routes and courses.
- Be a role model. Show through your behavior how mutual consideration works and that it leads to good coexistence for all forest users. Help by living these rules.
These rules are based on the Trail Rules of the German Mountain Bike Initiative (www.dimb.de) and the #LoveTrailsRespectRules campaign of the Bike magazine.
