The medium route version around Ettlingen. Highlights are the highest point of the city of Ettlingen at the Carl-Schöpf-Hütte and the view from the Bismarck Tower.

On the Panoramaweg you ride up to the ascent of the Richard-Massinger-Weg (blue diamond) and follow it further in the direction of Schluttenbach. Over the Rimmelsbacher Hof you follow the Griebenweg to Schöllbronn, over the Windwiesen on forest roads and singletrails down to the Albtal and there on the Graf-Rhena-Weg to just before the Albgau outdoor pool. For the second part of the route, you turn right here over the Alb bridge towards Wattkopf and climb on the Vogelsruhweg to the hunting lodge and the wild boar enclosure. This is followed by a gravel descent on the Edelbergweg, then a short singletrail ascent and then gravel roads to the Wattkopf tower. A demanding trail leads left to the Friedrichshütte hut, then to the Bismarck Tower and the Vogelsang parking lot and finally back through the city to the starting point. Two scoops of ice cream can be enjoyed at the end of the route in the old town or at the light rail station!

    Author’s recommendation

At the middle of the route you reach the outdoor pool parking lot again: The route can therefore be easily "halved" to only include the Wattkopf or Kreuzelberg section.

    Safety information

Use of the routes and connecting paths is at your own risk. The marking does not imply any traffic safety obligations for the owners of the paths, the affected municipalities, forest administrations and the Black Forest Central/North Nature Park. Cyclists must be prepared for typical forest hazards and are responsible for accidents and falls resulting from them. Vehicle traffic and temporary route closures, for example in the course of forestry or hunting, must always be expected. Warning signs from the forest administrations, the hunting operation or other warnings must be strictly observed. Mutual consideration is a matter of course.

    Tips and suggestions

Mountain bike riding technique courses are offered by TRAILSKILLS in Ettlingen, Bad Herrenalb and Remchingen. From March to October there are courses for beginners, further advanced courses for experienced mountain bikers, ladies-only courses only for women and new from 2020 also for children from 7 years. Furthermore, courses are offered irregularly and on request at the MTB Club Karlsruhe.

    Roadbook

After the start at the parking lot in front of "bei der Hell" and at the Horbachquell biotope on the Panoramaweg to the ascent of the Richard-Massinger-Weg (extension Wilhelmstraße). Follow the Richard-Massinger-Weg (blue diamond) to Schluttenbach. At the Schluttenbach town hall, turn into Waldstraße to Rimmelsbacher Hof and drive to Carl-Schöpf-Hütte - the highest point of the route. Back a short distance on the same route, then onto the "Griebenweg" to Schöllbronn. There, on the edge of town, cross Schwester-Baptista-Straße the L 613 country road (caution!), to the cemetery and then over Neuroder Straße to the left into Solbrunnenweg to the "Windwiesen". After the Windwiesen, turn right descending from Forstziehweg, take the singletrail down to the Albtal, take Graf-Rhena-Weg and follow it to the tennis courts shortly before the Albgau outdoor pool. Here either 200 m straight ahead to the start/finish, or right over the Alb bridge towards Wattkopf for the second half of the route:

After crossing Pforzheimer Straße (caution!) near the car dealership, uphill on "Vogelsruhweg" to the hunting lodge/Fuchsbauweg. After the hunting lodge cross Fuchsbauweg and take the easy singletrail "Grenzweg", which is initially flat, then downhill to Grünwettersbacher Weg. Past the wildlife enclosure follows a gravel descent on the Edelbergweg. Pay attention to the turn-off left to the short singletrail ascent "Gockelsweg", then back on gravel roads first towards Essigwiesenklamm, from there to the Wattkopf tower. Take the trail left to Friedrichshütte, which becomes a bit more challenging in the second part. At the end turn right to the Bismarck Tower and continue to the Vogelsang parking lot. Then back to the starting point via Steigenhohl-, Vogelsang-, Friedrich- and Schöllbronner Straße.

The signage system of the Black Forest Association provides additional orientation points, simply follow the waypoints:
