The beautiful route does not climb very high but offers quite a bit both in terms of scenery and riding techniques. A rooty Jägersteig awaits us, which triggers feelings of happiness among trail-loving bikers. Afterwards, it goes into the Hinterstein Valley and past the so-called "Wolfsgruben" (wolf pits), which can be viewed hidden in the undulating meadows from a vantage point. According to tradition, the pits were used many years ago to catch wolves that threatened the valley residents' livestock. On the way back to Hinterstein, you pass two hammer forges in Bad Oberdorf. The region was once significant in iron ore mining. Already in the 15th century, the Count of Montfort had iron mines created and a smelting works established at the spot where Ellesbach and Ostrach met. Foot soldier spears, spear irons, and spears were delivered in the thousands
