Hike & Bike to the Ochsenfelder Lakes
By bike through the long Karbach valley to the Ochsenfelder huts and then on foot to the Upper Ochsenfelder Lake.
The Ochsenfelder Lakes in the Gsieser Mountains are hardly known. This is probably due to the remoteness of the surrounding mountain world and the somewhat long access routes. Located at the foot of the Höllstein peak, framed to the north and east by dark rocks, the lake offers a wide view to the south over rolling and green alpine meadows towards the distant Dolomites. The path up from Gsies through the Karbach valley is also long and requires a strenuous day hike without an (E)-bike. The access road leading from Gsies up to the Ochsenfelder huts, however, is easily passable by bike. Although the subsequent hike up to the Upper Lake is partly steep and somewhat strenuous, with bike assistance the visit to the lakes can easily be managed as a day route.
