From Masevaux in the Doller valley to Ballon d'Alsace

The starting point of the route is the cathedral town of Masevaux in the Doller valley. On fairly steep paths and trails, we cycle via Grambächle to Ferme Bruckenwald and then follow the hiking trail to Lac du Lächtelweiher. After the ascent to the farms Lochberg and Fennematt, we pass the Doller spring and roll on a beautiful trail to Col du Hirtzelach. On forest roads, we reach the Auberge Grand Langenberg for a midday break, then follow the final ascent on asphalt to Ballon d'Alsace. At the summit stands an equestrian statue of Jeanne d'Arc and the statue of the Virgin Mary "Notre Dame du Ballon." After a photo stop, we bike on the Vosges ridge trail GR5 (marked by a red rectangle) via Wissgrut, Tremontkopf and Col du Hirtzelach towards Bärenkopf, the southernmost high mountain of the Vosges. Above Ferme Lochberg, we briefly leave the GR 5 and bypass the Bärenkopf summit on a beautiful hiking trail. At the forest hill Sudel, the GR 5 leaves the ridge and leads on flowing trails back to Masevaux.
