The Adelegg is a paradise for mountain bikers. On countless forest roads and forest paths, it often goes brutally uphill and downhill, good fitness is required here.
If you want to ride in calmly, start at the Eschacher Weiher, but the mountain foxes start properly in Kreuzthal. The warm-up is brief when we turn off at the Gohrersberg ski lift and use the paved mountain road as a starting ramp. At the mountain station follows the next “climb” to the Eibenkreuz. Further to the Kreuzleshöhe – the highlight par excellence for most tours. Passing the chapel, we now stay on the ridge trail and always in the shady forest, pass the Schwedenschanze until we come back out into the open at the Eschacher Weiher. Again up towards Schwarzer Grat, but then right onto the mountain meadows of Rothen Flue. The descent down into the Eschach valley turns some loops, so we pick up good speed. Our conclusion is pure pleasure: The road here is little traveled, gently downhill we reach Kreuzthal effortlessly. Those who have already reached their limits at Eschacher Weiher can shorten from here on the road through the Eschach valley.
Author's tip
A popular destination for mountain bikers is now the Panorama Bike Park at the Schwärzen lifts in Eschach.
The tour partly goes through sensitive natural areas in the FFH areas of the Adelegg, therefore we ask:
- Especially respect the cycling bans in the protected areas
In the protected areas of the Adelegg, rare and disturbance-sensitive animals find their habitat. Therefore, some paths are closed to cyclists. Please respect these closures. Above all, please never ride off-road.
- Control your speed as a cyclist and leave no traces
Adjust your speed to the respective situation and always be ready to brake. Show consideration for pedestrians. By controlled braking you prevent trail damage and erosion.

We start in Kreuzthal heading north and turn right at the Gorersberg ski lift. Then we head towards Eibenkreuz. The Kreuzleshöhe - a wonderful viewpoint - is reached after a short while. The small and large Schwedenschanze are passed and we come past the Eschacher Weiher parking lot. Here we have to turn right and shortly afterwards immediately left to leave the OA20 towards Hohenkapf. We continue our way towards Schwarzer Grat and pass the Alpe Wenger Egg. In serpentine form, it now goes back into the Eschach valley. After the parking lot we turn left and soon reach our starting point again.
