The descent from Aiblinger Hütte has been rideable since 2012 due to trail renovation. Fully rideable for trail fans.
Those who don’t like trails can also bypass the trail sections on the ascent (see alternatives) – but this adds a few more meters of altitude gain...
There is unfortunately no alternative for the trail on the descent, but apart from a few meters, it is actually quite rideable.
Author’s recommendation
Those who find the nearly 1000m elevation gain too little can extend the tour as desired, e.g., via Tregleralm behind Weißenbach on the ascent to Durham (+400m) or after the descent before Wirtsalm left via "Aipl" to Tregleralm and from there to Bad Feilnbach.

There are repeated short trail sections on the ascent. From Durham on, the path is very narrow and there may be more or less hikers on the way.The ascent to Kesselalm is steep and "washed out" with concrete curves and also stony sections.
From the gate behind Kesselalm, the path to Aiblinger Hütte is partly exposed (but wide enough for a jeep).
After Aiblinger Hütte, the renovated section is equipped with wooden water guides across the riding direction. These can be crossed. The path becomes rockier and is good to ride again towards the end.
From Wirtsalm, expect oncoming traffic! There are shady spots along the route that can be wet and slippery all year round.

Roadbook
Past Talhäusel and further to Weißenbach.
Just past the houses, before reaching the main road to Hundham, the new bike and bridle path branches off to the right. Continue on this path via Deisenried to Schwarzenberg. From there, continue on the Lake Constance-Königsee bike path to Dürnbach/Elbach. Here you meet the busy road to Fischbachau. After about 400/500m, leave this road again and turn right in front of the "Sonnenkeiser" inn towards Durham. There, the path to the right – somewhat hidden – leads over "Schwaigeralm" to "Birkenstein". Stay on this path (with occasional small "trail sections") until you pass Schwaigeralm and a challenging trail begins, slightly uphill. After about 2 km, you meet the forest road from Bucheralm and continue right, slightly downhill, to the gate.
Now it gets steeper uphill to Kesselalm (at the gate, turn onto the Birkenstein-Kesselalm path).
Those who want to continue without stopping leave Kesselalm on the left and ride about 500m further to the gate and the highest point. If you feel like it, you can hike to the summit of Breitenstein in 30 minutes.
After the gate, the path descends slightly, then briefly goes uphill towards Wendelstein/Aiblinger Hütte. After another gate (in the middle of a steep descent), about 300m later the left turn to Aiblinger Hütte follows (DAV hut – self-catering and only partially open on weekends – only drinks can be purchased). A stopover is more worthwhile later at Wirtsalm.
Past Aiblinger Hütte, there is now a trail downhill for about 2 km. The first 500m were renovated in 2012 and are very easy to ride. Then it gets a bit rougher – possibly requiring pushing – but gets more rideable towards the end. Occasionally, since 2013, there is a new forest road (very wide). DO NOT follow this but cross it diagonally!
At the valley floor, you meet the Jenbach and from here ride downhill on a well-developed forest road to Wirtsalm – a very good place to stop! – After 500m comes the Wirtsalm parking lot. The last few meters are then just nice rolling downhill on a paved road to Bad Feilnbach. At the edge of town (by Cafe Millau). From there, it is no longer to the parking lot.
Public transport
Train: Munich/Salzburg to Rosenheim.Continue to Bad Aibling and from there with the RVO bus to Bad Feilnbach (somewhat cumbersome).
Alternatively: Munich S-Bahn to Holzkirchen and from there by regional train to Bad Aibling and as above with the RVO bus to Bad Feilnbach.
RVO bus terminus is the parking lot described above.
Directions
From Munich via the A8 towards Salzburg to the exit Bad Aibling/Bad Feilnbach. Then right 5 km to Bad Feilnbach. After entering the town, about 1 km more on the main road to the T-junction (left to Brannenburg) – then right into the town.Parking
Parking and starting point is the central parking lot at the municipality. As described above, continue over Jenbach for about 400m to the war memorial at the municipality. Then right and about 200m to the parking lot.Coordinates
