Wonderful combination of cycling and hiking to an idyllic mountain lake.
The Schrüttenseen with their crystal-clear water lie idyllically in a hollow at just under 2,000 m in the innermost Schalderertal and are mostly reached on foot from Schalders. However, there are alternative routes to reach these picturesque mountain lakes – actually two. One possibility to visit this lesser-known area can ideally be combined with mountain biking and leads impressively high above Brixen to the natural jewel.

Roadbook
The route begins in Tils, a small hamlet located west above Brixen. Initially, the path leads along the access road, which passes the scattered mountain farms high up on the sunny side. Shortly after, it continues on a gravel road up to the ridge, the Masitter Jöchl (1,534 m), which borders the Schalderertal. Beyond that, it goes through dense forest around the Sonneneck (1,590 m) to the idyllic Ochsenalm (also called Grieser Alm on some maps) at 1,873 m. From here, it continues on foot along a hiking trail up to the Rinderköfele (2,063 m) and then briefly downhill to the nearby mountain lakes (1,957 m).
Public transport
If you arrive by public transport (train), you have to cycle up to Tils. That means about 5 km and 350 m more altitude to cover.
