Bad Salzdetfurth: Castles and Sauberge
The route also has trails, but in the forest of Derneburg there are more surprises waiting.
This route combines trail fun and culture in a very unique way. Trail here does not necessarily mean going downhill. Rather, you ride constantly up and down in typical cross-country style. First challenge: the path through the Bodetal to the Wesseln glider airfield, alternatively on the paved castle path next to it. The section to Derneburg runs over constantly changing terrain but often offers beautiful views across the landscape. Derneburg Castle serves as a prominent art museum. Around it, some lakes have been arranged. Deep in the forest, you will find a bizarre mausoleum shaped like an eleven-meter-high pyramid and a Greek temple that was once used as a teahouse by the local nobility. Afterwards, the forest paths demand a lot of attention again, for example the one over the Turmberg to the Wasserschloss Söder, which looks like a miniature Versailles. The Sauberge at the end: here really tough path climbs await, but also really beautiful descents.
