Along the ridge of the Štiavnica Mountains
A chase for views from the ridge of the Štiavnica Mountains – that is how we could call this beautiful cycling route between the saddles Lachtriská and Krížny Buk. The route is suitable only for MTB bikes or e-bikes.
The Štiavnica Mountains are the largest volcanic mountain range of the Western Carpathians. They are characterized by fields, meadows, and surrounding mountains. This mountain range is perfect especially for spring and autumn cycling tourism when it is at its most beautiful. Our cycling trip is planned directly along the ridge of this mountain range and we will set off together on the journey between the saddles Lachtriská and Krížny Buk.
We begin the cycling trip at the Lachtriská saddle, at the end of the cadastral area of the village Uhliská. From the saddle, there are beautiful views of the surrounding nature and mountains. We descend into a settlement through which we pass to a cottage area, where we turn right. The road surface changes to a quality forest road. Along this path, we reach the highest point of our cycling trip, the Sudenica Saddle. We will be delighted by the surrounding pastures where, with some luck, we might spot grazing cattle.
From the Sudenica saddle awaits us beautiful cycling tourism along the ridge of the Štiavnica Mountains. The route profile has a descending tendency and offers phenomenal views of the surrounding mountains. We bypass Hrubý vrch and Veľký Veterník. We recommend watching the markings on the trees, where you can notice a turnoff to the viewpoints.
We reach the crossroads Before the Krížny Buk saddle, where we increase caution when crossing the asphalt road. Although this road is seldom busy and mainly used by cyclists training for mountain premieres, caution never hurts. Ahead of us is a steeper descent through Krížny Buk Saddle to Pukanec, to the local part Rumlovka. We also recommend visiting the center of this picturesque village and visiting the exhibition of the Pottery House.
Author’s recommendation
If you want to make the route circular, we recommend returning to Uhliská via the local part of Pukanec – Pukanec, Majere. It is an asphalt road that is not very busy and passes through a cottage area, providing pleasant coolness in summer thanks to the surrounding small forest.
