A very difficult level route, especially because it is 60 km!

The great difficulty appears precisely at km 38, with a 6 km climb on a forest road and with passages slightly above 15% slope.

The route mostly follows rural paths, sometimes through extensive eucalyptus and, near the coast, it crosses some areas of intensive agriculture.

You will arrive at the coast twice: first in Azenha do Mar, a fishing village with an artisanal fishing port that is worth visiting, and, further ahead, the northern part of Odeceixe Beach, at the Southwest end of Odemira municipality, and where you will arrive after a very steep and technical descent.

The route then continues inland along Ribeira de Seixe (the natural border between Alentejo and Algarve) before crossing it on the N120 bridge and making a small foray into Algarvian terrain, passing through the typical small town of Odeceixe.

It continues until the finish along narrow paths through a region where there are very few people. Therefore it is recommended that you cycle with at least one other person.

It has several single tracks and forded water crossings.

Track only available in GPS. Download the track or use Outdooractive mobile app.

    Author’s recommendation

    • In Azenha do Mar, a fishing village where street names are related to fishing (Rua do Safio, Rua da Lota,…), go down to the artisanal fishing port.
    • At Odeceixe beach, at low tide, it is sometimes possible to cross the Ribeira to visit the long sandy beach of the southern part of the beach.

    Safety information

The route has two crossing points of the N120 and runs along it a little on the second passage on the bridge over the Seixe river that joins the Alentejo to the Algarve near the town of Odeceixe. Caution is recommended.

Parts of the route coincide with sections of the Rota Vicentina walking trails: the Historic Trail (GR11), the very popular Fisherman's Trail (TP) and some Circular Routes, so walkers are very likely to be present.

At 24 km there is a somewhat technical descent chichis also part of the Rota Vicentina Fishermen's Trail, towards the Seixe stream. Slow down and be especially careful because of the probable presence of walkers.

There are a total of 4 water passes and 1 marsh area where a lot of mud can accumulate. Therefore, this route can become unpassable or dangerous after very heavy and / or prolonged rainfall.
