Grotte Chauvet 2 Ardèche
Today you will visit the Grotte Chauvet 2 Ardèche World Heritage Site. It is a lifelike replica of the Grotte ornée du Pontd'Arc, where more than a thousand wall paintings were found in 1994. These paintings are over 36,000 years old - the oldest depictions known to date. On the outward journey, we recommend the route via Saint Paultrois Châteaux, whose Notre Dame cathedral was built in the 12th century and is an example of Romanesque architecture in Provence, influenced by antiquity. On the way back to Grignan, you will then cross the Drôme at Donzère with its Romanesque church and the "Chevinesse" tower built in the Renaissance style, which, together with the town walls and castle, is a registered site.
