Over the Hochwechsel and the Stuhleck we hike towards the Fischbach Alps with the Teichalm and the fascinating Bärenschützklamm.

From Aspang-Markt or Tauchen-Schaueregg we walked gently ascending towards the well-kept village of Mönichkirchen and now accompanied by the long-distance hiking trail 02, reached the Hallerhaus. Over the Steinerne Stiege we cross near the Wetterkoglerhaus the Hochwechsel. In a left curve we come to the Feistritz and Pfaffensattel as well as ascending to the Alois-Günther-Haus at the Stuhleck with a magnificent panoramic view. We pass the beautifully situated Rosegger-Schutzhaus, cross the Steinriegel and reach the tourist-oriented village of Alpl with the forest schoolhouse and Rosegger's "Waldheimat". We enter in a left curve into the Fischbach Alps, pass Teufelstein and Vollegg and find overnight accommodation at the guesthouse "Am Straßegg". After a right curve we meet the Mixnitxbach and the recreational area Teichalm. With the Bärenschützklamm reopened and the small waterfalls we get southeast of Bruck/Mur to the main town Mixnitz.

    Safety information

Due to a massive föhn storm but also due to a rockfall, the passage of the Bärenschützklamm is probably only possible again from May 1, 2023 - a detour via the well-signposted Prügelweg is completely unproblematic. Hikers can still walk through the gorge over more than 3,000 steps until the end of October (Kleine Zeitung of 30.9.2024).
