Stage 1: Beginner stage

The Paznaun high route starts in See at the parish church at 1,056 m and follows the paved path to the easternmost hamlet of Oberfrödenegg. It continues along the easy trail through the so-called "Giggler Tobel," where the Giggler Tobel battle took place around 1809, passing the unattended Almstüberl, until the fork in the road at Giggl. Follow the signpost towards Ascherhütte briefly downhill to the new fork in the road, take the upper path until at the Üblikapelle the actual high route begins. From there you reach the unattended but beautifully situated Giggler Alm at 1,845 m, which invites you to linger in the midst of the lovely alpine meadow landscape. From Giggler Alm, you hike down the valley through romantic larch forests, cross the Gigglbach and must overcome a fairly steep section before reaching the Unterpaznaun viewpoint, a dream spot like no other. From almost no other place can the entire Unterpaznaun be seen better. Lingering here a bit and enjoying the mountain world is almost mandatory. From here you hike enjoyably over always marked trails to the first stage goal, the Ascherhütte, at 2,256 m.
