The Ore Trail, awarded the "Qualitätsweg Wanderbares Deutschland" (Walkable Germany Quality Trail), combines culture with nature and bridges the gap between the hiking experience and the mining history of the Ruhr region in the Middle Ages.
The Ore Trail is an approximately 200 km long hiking trail from Pegnitz via Sulzbach-Rosenberg to Kastl.The trail is supplemented by a total of nine loops that are connected to the main route. A überhaus high proportion of natural paths invites the hiker to a special experience. The paths offer heavenly impressions, stretching over light-flooded rocky ridges, crossing deeply incised valleys, gently curving hills and alternating idyllic stream and river landscapes with wide forests. The landscape is interspersed with culturally and historically interesting sites, such as the ruins of Lichtenegg, the medieval ore town of Amberg, the Gothic town hall and mighty castle of Sulzbach-Rosenberg, the imposing monastery complexes of Michelfeld and Kastl, or the baroque hammer lord's castle of Theuern.
