Obergurgl hut circuit
Anyone who floats from Obergurgl with the cable car up to Hohe Mut will inevitably be fascinated: At the mountain station begins a broad, gentle, and as if drawn with a ruler, meadow ridge that separates the Gaisberg valley with Hochfirst, Liebener Spitze, and Gaisbergferner from the Rotmoostal with the glacier of the same name and the shining snowfields of the impressive Wasserfallferner. "I know that," many will think, and right, the panorama is a classic postcard motif. Hohe Mut is one of Austria's top viewing mountains – from here alone 21 three-thousanders can be seen – and also allows hikers to experience the fascination of mountains in general and the Ötztal glacier world in particular up close on easy paths.
But Hohe Mut is not only a destination for excursions and hikes; it is also the start of an extraordinary circular route. The five-day Obergurgl hut circuit circles the end of the Obergurgl valley clockwise. And that on lonely trails and paths, often even in pathless terrain. Due to the extensive glaciers and the partly demanding crossings of some of the best-known and most worthwhile three-thousanders of the Ötztal Alps, it is a tour for experienced mountaineers with appropriate experience – or for ambitious mountaineers accompanied by a mountain guide. The guide is responsible so that one can enjoy the magnificent mountain scenery step by step.

Safety information
Demanding multi-day tour from hut to hut, crossing several three-thousanders. Complete glacier equipment is required; the summit ascents are secured with steel cables here and there and are easy for experienced mountaineers, but very demanding in new snow or ice.
IMPORTANT: The description refers to conditions in autumn 2014. However, recent warm summers have led to changes in the high mountains, so you must absolutely inform yourself about the current situation before starting the tour. Depending on glacier melting, some sections of the tour may now be difficult or impossible to walk.

Roadbook
Stage 1: From Obergurgl (1910 m) take the cable car up to Hohe Mut (2640 m). Over the green ridge with views of Gaisberg and Rotmoostal first slightly downhill, then on a beautiful trail with gentle ups and downs to the distinctive lateral moraine of the Rotmoosferner. Over scree onto the glacier and across it to the Rotmoosjoch. On the other side, flat to the Planferner and to the already visible Zwickauer Hut (2980 m).
Stage 2: From the Zwickauer Hut on a trail (partially secured) to the Hinterer Seelenkogel (3472 m). Descent to the north and south of the Mittlerer Seelenkogel towards the northwest to the Seelenferner. Over the glacier, lower down cross country over scree and below the moraine in a northwest direction (occasionally cairns) to a trail. On this to the Langtalereck Hut.
Stage 3: From Langtalereck Hut on a trail into the Langtal valley and flat upstream to the glacier. Over it into the saddle at the foot of the east ridge of the Southern Hohe Wilde and onto the trail coming from the Stettiner Hut, which is partially secured and leads to the summit (3482 m). Over the connecting ridge secured with a steel cable to the north summit (3461 m) and descent to the Gurgler Ferner. Passing southwest of the Annakogel and before the Mitterkamm change onto the glacier northwest of the Annakogel. Over firn or ice, then over scree and finally on a small trail to the currently unmanaged Hochwildehaus (2866 m) and back down to Langtalereck Hut.
Stage 4: From Langtalereck Hut back up to the Hochwildehaus and with slight loss of altitude onto the Gurgler Ferner. Over a step onto the Kleinleitenferner and up into the Schalfkogeljoch. Along the ridge to the Schalfkogel (3540 m). From the summit cross a short descent over a firn ridge into a saddle and northeast descent over the glacier to about 3100 meters elevation. In trackless terrain above the glacier benches to the Ramolhaus (3006 m).
Stage 5: From Ramolhaus on trail to the Ramolferner and into the saddle between the middle and northern Ramolkogel (Anichspitze, 3428 m). Over scree and easy rock to the summit. Return on the ascent route to the hut and long descent to Obergurgl.

The start of the Obergurgler Hüttenrunde is pure enjoyment. As if on a promenade, you hike over the green ridge of the Hohe Mut and enjoy the view ...
Steep and inaccessible presents itself the Hinterer Seelenkogel, which is a true border summit. But the ascent is not difficult in good conditions ...
A highlight of the Obergurgl hut circuit on the third day is the crossing of the Hohe Wilde. A varied route over huge glaciers and airy ridges.
The alpine crossing over the Schalfkogel is rarely frequented, although it is absolutely worthwhile from a mountaineering perspective.
The Nördl. Ramolkogel (Anichspitze, 3428 m) is considered an easy three-thousander and can be comfortably climbed from the Ramolhaus.
