The Main-Stromberg Trail (HW15) covers a distance of nearly 172 km from the skyscrapers of "Mainhattans" to the picturesque vineyards of the Stromberg. We hike along the edge of the Odenwald into the Kraichgau, crossing the Neckar which also marks the border between Hesse and Baden-Württemberg. Scenic heights, narrow river valleys and extensive farmland offer charming impressions.

Stage 1: Frankfurt am Main - Dreieichenhain (15.7 km)
Our route starts in the Frankfurt district of Sachsenhausen and steadily ascends southwards. The "red squares" guide us through a villa district and the beautiful gardens of the Lerchenberg settlement into the Frankfurt city forest. We continue via the Huguenot town Neu-Isenburg, Buchschlag and the Seegewann allotment garden colony until we reach the old town of Dreieichenhain.
Stage 2: Dreieichenhain - Ober Ramstadt (25.1 km)
On the second day, we walk from Dreieichenhain through the Mörsbach valley to Ober Ramstadt. First, we expect the picturesque Koberstadter Falltorhaus and the venerable Bernhard-Geissler oak on the way to Messel. The second section passes the Einsiedel forester's house with the Scheftelheim oak and the lily-covered Ludwig pond before heading with a view toward Ober Ramstadt.
Stage 3: Ober Ramstadt - Neunkirchen (18.6 km)
At the beginning, we climb the Mühlberg at the edge of Ramstadt, overcome a hilltop and reach Hahn-Wembach through a small river valley. Then we proceed uphill in the shade of the trees and soon see Lichtenberg Castle appear above the treetops. Via the Suchmannsmühle, we go to Rodau before reaching Lichtenberg. After visiting the castle, we climb steeply to the ring wall at Altscheuer, a reminder of the Celtic era. Finally, we hike up and down over Lützelbach to the stage destination Neunkirchen.
Stage 4: Neunkirchen - Fürth im Odenwald (11.4 km)
From the highest village in the Odenwald, we head southwards into mountainous terrain. The path to the Neunkirchen height leads us past the Gersprenz spring and the distinctive Seibertstein before we reach the scenic Kaiserturm. The following descent leads into the hilly plain of Winterkasten. Via Litzelröde we continue to the Bismarck tower near Lindenfels, which impresses with the venerable flair of its medieval buildings. Through farmland, we finally cover the last meters to Fürth.
Stage 5: Fürth im Odenwald - Waldmichelbach (14.0 km)
On day 5, we expect lots of nature and several ascents. Along the way, we enjoy a break in the beautiful recreation area Steinbachwiesen and pass the Lindenstein rock formation, past which a gravel path leads. The Ireneturm at the highest point of the Tromm offers once again magnificent views. Finally, we leave the forest and follow the sculpture-lined art trail that leads us on a ridge to the Kreidacher Höhe, where we leave the path to the left and pitch our overnight camp in Waldmichelbach.
Stage 6: Waldmichelbach - Neckarsteinach (23.0 km)
The sixth stage initially follows the Wolfsloch and the southern side of Kottenberg before continuing southwards through wooded heights. We pass the triangular Adlerstein, the Wolfsgrube and the Old Expiation Cross. Only towards the end of the day do we leave the heights and reach Neckarsteinach at a picturesque river loop, ending the day relaxed.
Stage 7: Neckarsteinach - Sinsheim (25.1 km)
On day 7, the queen stage of the Main-Stromberg Trail awaits us: With the Neckar, we also cross the border to Baden-Württemberg and can look forward to a varied hike from the edge of the Little Odenwald into the plain of Sinsheim. Along the way, impressive castles, the historic old town of Dilsberg with its stately Peace Linden, the beautiful Biddersbach valley and numerous charming villages provide a wealth of impressions before we arrive in the half-timbered old town of Sinsheim.
Stage 8: Sinsheim - Menzingen (23.8 km)
The penultimate part of our route heads southwest from Sinsheim to Menzingen. Along the way, we hike the forested and meadow-covered heights around Waldangelloch, Eichelberg and Tiefenbach. We enjoy untouched nature and stunning panoramas. A worthwhile stopover can be made at the Michaels chapel and Kreuzberg lake.
Stage 9: Menzingen - Sternenfels (13.8 km)
With the final stage, we head southeast and cross the extensive farmland on the way to our destination Sternenfels. Through the Eschebach valley, we reach the plain of Zaisenhausen, which is impressively dominated by the double towers of its church. Passing through orchards and small river valleys, we then hike to Kürnbach, where a historic cider press adorns the path. After Eschelberg, the final ascent leads to Sternenfels, where we reach the end of our hike at the foot of the Stromberg.
