Lausitzer Schlange - Elbsandstein Mountains variant
This north-south variant of the long-distance trail Lausitzer Schlange leads from Valtenberg through the diverse Elbsandstein Mountains for about 40 km and ends in Saupsdorf.
Right at the König-Johann-Turm in Valtenberg, we tighten our hiking boots and start the first kilometers of the north-south variant of the Lausitzer Schlange. We immediately walk into the forest towards Rückenberg, whose summit we do not climb, however. Then it continues through the village of Berthelsdorf into the old town of Neustadt in Sachsen. We take in the impressive cityscape and take a break here. Refreshed, we then hike over the Götzingerhöhe into the city forest and straight to the summit of the Ungers. From there, we enjoy a breathtaking view over the landscape. Now it goes over roots and stones and under shady trees into the old town of Sebnitz. We leave the city walls heading south and march through the municipality of Kirnitzschtal to the Lichtenhainer Waterfall, another sight of this route.
