Safety information
As a rule, you should check the weather before every hike on the Wandertrilogie Allgäu. Rain and/or fog can greatly reduce visibility, making orientation more difficult. At the same time, prolonged wet weather increases the risk of slipping.
Since the Himmelsstürmer Route runs through the middle to high areas of the Allgäu Alps, it is essential that you have alpine experience and surefootedness.
You should therefore expect exposed, slippery and fall-hazardous, as well as unsecured sections over rugged terrain with loose scree and even snowfields in midsummer. You should be surefooted and not afraid of heights.
For your safety, cable protections are installed at some points. Some sections also require a bit more stamina due to easy climbing parts. Sometimes you may need to use your hands. However, some passages also have stepping aids installed. Pay attention to the color coding of the trail category on the signposts.
On this stage, soils in the moor area can become heavily waterlogged in prolonged wet weather.

Roadbook
The hike begins at the centrally located start and welcome area at the tourist information. Head south on a footpath out of Balderschwang along the Bolgenbach to the bridge, which you then cross. First follow the paved path until it turns into a gravel path. Continuously uphill first through forest and then over long meadow paths to the Burgl hut. From there, continue straight ahead to just below the Sättele, where you have a wonderful panoramic view. From there, the route goes through high heath and beautiful forest sections up to Hochschelpen with magnificent views. At the summit, the path splits, and you choose the left-hand fork. Now follow a continuous path downhill without any junctions. After crossing the Stubenbach, the Himmelsstürmer Route leads on to the Scheuen waterfall and then to the Scheuen alp. The next place to stop is the Alpe Dinjoergen. A few meters past the alp, the route curves right onto a field path. On a barely discernible path, ascend to the right. Further on, you walk relaxed to the Schönberg alp (rest stop). Just before the alp, there is an opportunity to make a roughly 1.3 km (one-way) detour via Beslerkopf to the viewing peak Besler. From the alp, you walk directly to the Riedberg Pass road, which is crossed near a farm to an asphalt path. After about 200 m, turn right and continue relaxed to Grasgehren.
