The route through the Gruyère Pays-d'Enhaut Nature Park offers insight into the typical natural landscape of the original region and the tradition of alpine farming.
Across alpine pastures and peaks, through villages and forests – the Grand Tour des Vanils runs once through the Gruyère Pays-d'Enhaut Nature Park. Along the way, we behold the wonderful natural scenery as well as the fascinating world of alpine herders. Panoramic views over valleys and lakes, great views of the Alpine ranges, the central plateau and the Jura heights, a stop in cozy mountain huts and charming villages – the long-distance hike connects the diverse pre-Alpine landscape with the opportunity for beautiful encounters. "Vanil" means as much as "rock" or "rocky mountain peak." The nature park is lined with numerous distinctive mountain peaks, so one does not have to think twice about whether the name is justified for the route. Good preparation is necessary for the hike, which is only recommended for experienced mountain hikers. Surefootedness and a head for heights should also be brought along.
