By bike from Arco to Riva del Garda and excursion on the old Ponale road
To add more variety to our route, we decided to alternate cycling with trekking. Starting from Arco and arriving at Riva del Garda - passing through Torbole - following the cycle path: it is a short distance, but the route is very beautiful and panoramic.
On reaching the Ponale trail, a former road connecting Riva del Garda and the Ledro Valley, you continue on foot. The trail is easy and very scenic, and at every curve or alcove, you can stop to take a photo. In the first part of the route, you encounter the old Austrian military fortifications from the 1800s: the Tagliata del Ponale.
You climb on a dirt road up to the Belvedere Restaurant, where you can rest and enjoy an excellent panoramic view of Lake Benaco. From here, if you want, you can choose some routes; we chose to go to Regina Mundi of Pregasina. The trail is on an asphalted road only for cyclists and pedestrians.
