Set out to the southern part of Gemer following the traces of recent and ancient history. Castles built on extinct volcanoes offer beautiful views of the land of former volcanoes - Cerová vrchovina.

Very interesting rock formations in the southernmost area of Gemer were in the past an ideal place for building fortified castles. Today, we only find remnants of them, but the beautiful scenery has not diminished much.

The route consists of 2 peaks. We start it in the center of the village Hajnáčka. Following the green mark, we slightly ascend a street beneath the castle hill, at the end of which we turn left and once again left along a dead-end street leading to the entrance gate to the castle area of Hajnáčka - the first peak. We are located in a Protected Landscape Area (CHKO), and therefore we visit the upper parts of the area without a bicycle. It is definitely worth it. After the tour, we move on the state road by bicycle to the village Šurice, at the end of which the second peak of the route – Soví hrad – towers. Again, we respect nature protection and look at the highest accessible places only on foot.

    Safety information

Increased attention is required when passing through the village of Hajnáčka on the main road (due to blind curves).

    Tips and suggestions

After returning to the village Hajnáčka, we can let the bicycle rest and go for a hike to the viewpoint Tilič and Pohanský hrad, or in the opposite direction to the photogenic Steblová rock or the second youngest volcano in Slovakia - the Ragáč hill. South of Hajnáčka is the archaeological site Kostná dolina and part of the village called Šťavica with a very interesting surface mineral water spring. Right at it there is a shelter for grilling, swings for children, and an educational panel describing the history of the vanished spa. You can also enjoy the view of the extinct Hajnáčka castle.
