After the arduous portage at the dam, it is best to launch again on the left side at the end of the developed riverbank at the stairs, as they lead directly to the water and the water there has already calmed down somewhat.
Now the more active part of the tour can begin. You travel through the beautiful village of Grimmelshausen, where the cows in the pasture watch you in amazement. It continues to the lock mouth at Kloster Veßra, where only water often runs over the fish ladder. The rest is diverted to the trout farming facility. After the first impressive view of the slumped mountain, the diverted water portion of the Schleuse comes in, which shoots at right angles into the Werra at about 1 meter height. Caution is advised here. This is followed by the dismantled upper weir near Themar, which is really fun to navigate. During spring thaw, just go straight over, otherwise nicely follow the meandering line. This is also the alternative entry point at low water. Arriving in Themar, we are impressed by the impressive city wall of the old Werra town. After portaging, the journey continues along the city wall. At the edge of town, we see the caravan parking area. Then follow the Werra valley bike path, the Rasenmühle, and the tributaries of Weißbach and Tachbach. After a nice steep slope on the left side, we reach Henfstädt. We pass under the charming old Werra bridge before our journey ends at the fish ladder in front of the weir.
