Running in nature around the town of Tolmin along the Tolminka and Soča rivers connects the confluence of these rivers, the German ossuary, and the Austrian cemetery, goes under Tolmin Castle, and past the entrance to the Tolmin Gorges.

The route is marked at forks with yellow directional arrows, and in between we can also use yellow-white markings (on the ground or on objects).  The recommended start of the run is at the confluence of the Soča and Tolminka rivers (or also in the center of Tolmin) and then upstream along the Soča river, first past the German ossuary and then past the civil cemetery and through the shopping area to the foot of the hill with castle remains. We do not climb to the top of the hill, but cross the slope above the settlement on the eastern side of the hill and join the sidewalk towards the village of Zatolmin. In the village, we follow the signs to the Polog valley and the church in Javorca, at the church of St. Peter (at the Triglav National Park sign) we turn right onto the military mule track, which leads us directly to the entrance of the Tolmin Gorges (with an entrance fee, there is the possibility of a circular visit). At the refreshment stand, we look for the gravel path to the Austro-Hungarian military cemetery in Loče, where for a short time we run on asphalt through the settlement all the way to the bridge over the Tolminka. From there we continue along the maintained walking path right by the Tolminka river to the footbridge over the river at the confluence of the Soča and Tolminka rivers.

    Safety information

Be careful when crossing the state road at the roundabout and then through the shopping part of the town. We reach the road, otherwise traffic-free, once again between the village of Zatolmin and the church of St. Peter at the top of the village.

    Roadbook

The start is at the confluence of the Soča and Tolminka rivers, where we look for the gravel path that leads to the German ossuary and on to the civil cemetery, which we run around. At the roundabout, we cross the state road and enter the shopping area of the town and continue towards the paragliding landing site. We ascend to the foot of Kozlov ridge (Castle), cross its eastern slope and continue towards Zatolmin. At the church of St. Peter at the top of the village, we turn right onto the military mule track, which leads down to the entrance of the Tolmin Gorges and continue right, after a few meters we turn left onto the gravel road towards Loče. Along the Tolminka we run to the bridge, and under it we catch the walking path along the Tolminka, which we follow to the confluence with the Soča, i.e., our starting point.
