From the Kursalon Mödling car park, walk along the edge of the old town,
up to St Othmar's Church.
Up to the Black Tower - past the eye glasses through a wonderful, breathtaking landscape formation, the path winds its way over hill and dale.
Small rocky steps to particularly beautiful viewpoints characterise this trail over the Kalenderberg.
Fantastic meadows characterise the landscape here.
A marvellous tree population of picturesque formations under the patronage of the black pine makes this trail an inspirational route.
We recommend stopping off at the Waldmeierei
and a visit to the ruins of Liechtenstein Castle. There is a great adventure playground for children on the way from the Waldmeierei back to Mödling.
Great places to linger, read and picnic have become my favourites here.
A very rewarding walk.
The hazelnut dormouse is a natural guardian of this cultural landscape. First of all, the hazel dormouse is not a mouse, but a dormouse. In addition to hibernating until April, it differs from real mice in that it has a bushy tail and a mainly climbing lifestyle.

The Black Tower
Built in 1809 on the foundations of an old "guard house" by Prince Johann Josef I von und zu Liechtenstein. The artificial ruin on the rocky slope to the Mödling "Klausen" was built by architect Joseph Hardtmuth.
Hidden by the wayside as an insider tip - the amphitheatre
he amphitheatre was built in 1810/11 as a Roman ruin with 16 arches with massive pillars combined with Doric columns by architect Joseph Hardtmuth. This artificial ruin was built in 1810 by Prince Johann Josef I von und zu Liechtenstein as a lookout point. The building was designed by Joseph Hartmuth, who was inspired by the Roman Colosseum (arched form consisting of 16 arches and two towers). One of the two towers provided access to the top of the wall. The staircase was walled off for safety reasons and today pine trees tower over the structure.
