Selected alternatives for you
The first permanent marathon route was conceived and realized by the running group of the TV 1904 Coburg-Lützelbuch e. V. club in the club's 100th anniversary year.

    An idea is born

The idea is called Coburg Marathon. What's behind it? Another new marathon in Germany? Another attempt to benefit from the marathon boom in Germany? Another marathon that disappears after being held three times at the latest? No!

    The idea means …

… running a marathon whenever you want.

… running a marathon in multiple parts consecutively. … repeatedly running the same route and knowing its length. … having several new training routes.

… being a guest in Coburg and finding a route even if you are not familiar with the area.

… experiencing Coburg on the run.

… as a business traveler, receiving a route suggestion at the hotel reception.

… hopefully finding more cities in Germany that follow this idea.

    The concept

The idea is as simple as it is brilliant. The “Coburg Marathon” is not a marathon event but a permanent running route comparable to a hiking trail. This running route has already been fully measured. It will soon be fully marked by the members of the running group of TV Lützelbuch. The signs will partly include additional information about the current distance covered from the starting point at the Rolf-Forkel-Halle in Lützelbuch. In addition to directional signage, further route signs will be placed every 5 km to show the runner at which point of the route they currently are. Thus, every runner can start at any point on the route and run as far as they feel like. At a point of their choice, they can then turn back and run back to their starting point. At the end of their run, the runner will know the exact distance they have covered. The route is also designed so it can be divided into about two sections of approximately 20 km each by a cross connection. Therefore, not everyone running the “Coburg Marathon” route has to be a marathon runner.

Another important aspect: Visitors to the city of Coburg, as well as business travelers who like to run, can get the flyer at the tourist office or the hotel where they are staying and run a part of the “Coburg Marathon” on the same evening or the next morning, thus experiencing Coburg on the run. Perhaps running enthusiasts from the region will also come to complete the “Coburg Marathon” once. Maybe there will be an opportunity to hold a marathon relay on the route sometime. Perhaps the “Coburg Marathon” will find imitators in Germany, so that such things will soon be found in several cities. The idea of fitness trails also started with the first one. Maybe ….. Who knows what else one can imagine….. At the beginning of 2004, these words were still a vision. Meanwhile, the route is already over 10 years old. In the meantime, several events already take place on the route. For one, there is always the Coburg Winter Marathon on one of the first weekends of the year, which again attracts running enthusiasts from the region, all over Germany, and even from various countries in Europe to Coburg every year.

Before our marathon route enters puberty, we want to spruce it up a bit. Thanks to the support of VR-Bank Coburg, the signage will be renewed over the course of the year so that the route shines in new splendor. As you can see, something is always happening on the Coburg Marathon route. In this spirit.

    Keep on running …
