Admittedly, quite a low point in the Holzkirchen running landscape – but what a one! It's not the Grand Canyon, but the Devil's Gorge is certainly impressive. We discover it on a running tour through the impressive geotope in the north of Holzkirchen – due to the high proportion of forest, this route is ideal for warmer days.

More than 12,000 years ago, the Isar flowed through the Devil's Gorge to today's Mangfall bend; today the Devil's Gorge is a valuable geotope.

Tips and suggestions
The Holzkirchen running park is a collaborative product of the Holzkirchen market and the RSLC Holzkirchen. On 10 signposted loops, you can explore and experience the surroundings of Holzkirchen perfectly from a running perspective. Starting points with overview boards can be found at the BaTuSa leisure pool and at Holzkirchen station (east side).Roadbook
Our run starts at the BaTuSa leisure pool and leads over the pool area into Wilhelm-Leibl-Straße and further via Flinspachstraße out of Holzkirchen towards the west. Over a field path and the Holzhäuslerweg we reach the village Roggersdorf, which we leave further in a northerly direction. Our path now leads downhill through the forest into the valley of the Devil's Gorge. We follow the gorge system until the path finally rises again to state road 2573. Here we turn right onto the pedestrian and bike path connecting Otterfing and Holzkirchen. After a short time we reach the northern district Maitz and pass the northern roundabout, continuing towards the town centre. At Wilhelm-Liebhaber-Straße we keep right and after about 120 meters turn left onto a small path. This leads us to Marxbauerstraße, which we follow to the end. We turn right onto Haidstraße and leave it at the first turning onto Adolf-Kolping-Straße. Another small passage at the end of the street leads the way over St. Josef Street and the adjoining south Jahnstraße. We leave Jahnstraße turning right onto Am Olivberg street, pass the playground at Flinspachstraße and at the next opportunity turn back onto Wilhelm-Leibl-Straße. From here we reach the starting point at BaTuSa again.
