An 11.5 km running route which essentially follows the 13.5 km Sollinglauf running race in Dassel, held every year in March. It is a good training route because there are some elevation meters to run, but only soft forest paths are covered.

A running round through the Solling. The round runs only on soft forest paths. However, some elevation meters have to be overcome, making the run a good training session for city runs. Meanwhile, there are beautiful views into the Hellental and Ilmetal.

    Author’s recommendation

In May, large parts of the route can be run as the 11.5 km of the Sollinglauf.

    Safety information

It is slippery in the forest from time to time. Be cautious on the Himmelsleiter and on the root path behind the CVJM Heim.

    Roadbook

The starting point is the Schützenhaus in Dassel; Schützenstraße branches off to the right from Erholungsheimstraße at the western edge of Dassel.

You first run slightly uphill, passing the barbecue area into the forest. After 1.9 km, you go steeply uphill to the left, then briefly straight on a soft forest path. Then the "Himmelsleiter," a steep sandstone staircase (caution slippery!), leads to Seutebornweg towards CVJM Heim. At kilometer 3, the forest opens on the left, and you can see benches and a fire pit of the CVJM Heim. Please be careful there and leave the paved path to the right onto a forest path with tree roots.

The path again leads right onto a paved hiking trail. At the first sharp right turn at kilometer 3.8, keep left onto the barely recognizable forest path and after about 20 meters continue steeply uphill to the right. After about 300 meters, you reach a gravel road and follow the well-paved forest path left around to a fork at kilometer 5.4, where you run sharply right downhill.

We now run relaxed downhill, always alongside the Hellental, until after two more climbs we keep left and run down a gravel road. We turn right at the old Mackenser forester’s house and follow the forest path. Before the forest edge at kilometer 10.2, keep right; the path leads away from the field after an S-curve in the forest downhill. At the bottom, keep left and follow the uneven path. Shortly before the end of the forest, it goes steeply right up a narrow path leading after a slight uphill and downhill directly onto an asphalt road. There, we run left down back to our starting point.
