The Gaisloch, which is a via ferrata in summer, freezes in winter and forms this icefall with variations. A rather difficult icefall with a long approach and steep approach terrain makes it a particularly impressive experience.

The Gaislochfall is an impressive formation at the end of the Höllental. Above is the Rax plateau, and this hole is the last passage at the valley end. It is correspondingly windy here, and you cool down faster. The long approach deters some from this classic, but the overall alpine experience is very great in this undertaking.

The conditions at the fall are usually good from mid-January, then there is more ice present than shown in the photos. The lower shield and thus the lower rope length goes to the left of the pillar. From there, then to the pillar and further up. One should then meet the anchors of the Gaisloch there. When climbing up, you can also return to the start via a small detour over the path.

    Safety information

Take avalanche equipment, the last section is very steep!

    Roadbook

You follow the path to the Schönbrunnerstiege, which initially leads a few meters towards the Wachthüttelkamm and crosses above the road reinforcement to the iron Schönbrunnerstiege. On the marked summer path, you first follow the path on the left side of the slope before it leads to the valley bottom and then to the end of the valley. At the end, the path steepens strongly towards the already visible fall. There is avalanche danger here!

After climbing through the fall, you can abseil on the left side at the iron protections of the Gaislochsteig and return the same way.
