Experience nature for big and small children

For families with children – regardless of age – the surroundings of Kreuth are a true adventure playground. There are countless opportunities to experience nature together. And this is independent of season: outdoor family vacations work here from January to December. In spring, summer, and autumn, the range of possible activities extends from classic hiking with natural pool bathing to strenuous summit routes including cozy hut stays, up to demanding climbing or mountain biking. And in winter, everything is possible, from leisurely winter hiking over exciting snowshoe tours and sporty cross-country skiing rounds to the so-called “king discipline” – ski touring. And everything is uniquely beautiful…

Here, we present to you our interesting family routes.

    Author’s recommendation

For older children, a detour to the Buchsteinhütte with a beautiful view of the Roß- and Buchstein is worthwhile.

    Roadbook

For small children up to about eight years old, summits are generally not desirable goals. A varied and exciting path is much more interesting. This extremely easy family route offers exactly that in two alternatives: a forest road suitable for strollers and sledding as well as a varied mountain path, on which parents should rather carry the very young ones in a backpack carrier. Both paths can be easily managed by children from four years old. At the end, the family-friendly Schwarzentenn Alm awaits as a wonderful place to rest, located in the extensive alpine pasture area between Hirschberg and Hochplatte.

Route: From the "Klamm Nord" parking lot, you first go a few hundred meters on forest road 604, which is used as a supply route for the Schwarzentenn Alm. Then you have to decide: straight ahead on the wide, easy forest road – certainly the better option for families with strollers (in summer) or sleds (in winter). Or left over a bridge onto the summer path, which presents itself as a narrow but easy mountain trail. Here, children should be sure-footed – or sit in the backpack carrier on mom's or dad's back. The path always stays on the left side of the stream, includes several bridges, and passes a small but fine waterfall shortly before meeting the forest road. Here you can nicely throw stones into the pools or build small cairns. From the junction shortly afterward into the forest road, it takes just under fifteen minutes to the Schwarzentenn Alm. Around the Alm, there is wonderful space to play. Several streams run through the area, inviting dam building.

    Variant:

Shortly before the alpine area, the path branches off to the Buchsteinhütte (No. 609). This detour takes about an hour longer and is 4.5 km with 250 m ascent.
