Author’s recommendation
Visit the unique Carinthian Way of the Cross in Stein im Jauntal. The stations of the ascent to the parish church of St. Laurentius were designed by 14 different artists from the region, and the Carinthian Way of the Cross is not only impressive for its religious contemplation and reflection. It is also a symbol of the breadth of Carinthia's artistic landscape. The ascent to the parish church takes about 30 minutes.
To the south of the parish church, a well-preserved enclosing wall, formerly crowned by a covered walkway, runs along the plateau, in the middle of which rises the 14th century charnel house. Since 1996, the Dance of Death by Kiki Kogelnik, a low-relief work made of glazed ceramic in shades of gray, has been on display here.
