Roadbook
Over hills and through valleys – no exaggeration here. Magnificent panoramic views, romantic meadow valleys, and adventurous rock passages provide varied experiences. Our hike starts at the Naturfreundehaus in the Gersbachtal of the Pirmasens district Niedersimten. We use the black Nordic Walking signs for orientation. Above the idyllic Gersbach, we first hike towards Niedersimten. At the parking lot, we cross the stream and continue our hike to the outskirts on the other side of the stream. The path initially ascends steadily through mixed forest and past meadows until we reach the plateau. A wide area lies ahead and the view of the city of Pirmasens, built on seven hills, is impressive. Almost level, we walk between meadows and fields, enjoy the views repeatedly, and pass the new residential area of Pirmasens-Erlenbrunn. The large windows of many houses stand out – no wonder with this magnificent view! A short section leads through the village and soon the excursion restaurant SV Erlenbrunn at the sports field is reached. Following the path marked with a white cross downhill, we pass the natural monument “Kuhtrog” and cross a dark spruce forest. Then a beautiful valley opens before us, through whose meadows the Rodalb winds. A nice place to pause and soak in the tranquility. Beautiful mixed forest welcomes us, through which we ascend about 100 meters to the next hill. In between, we take an extended break in the wonderful surroundings of the PWV house “Drei Buchen.” We follow the red-white markings on natural paths past mighty rocks to a natural attraction: the Devil’s Rock. The hike over boardwalks close along the fascinating rocks, breakthroughs, and abysses is adventurous and lots of fun! Now we are back in the Gersbachtal and hike back to the starting point.
