The second stage of the Rur-Olef-Route runs from the Oleftal to the Eifel heights, the Hellenthal wildlife enclosure, the Dreiborner high plateau, and over the rock passage Rubelsberg to Einruhr at Obersee.

The second stage from Hellenthal to Einruhr also begins with an ascent in the forest. As soon as we have reached the height, the extensive and impressive wildlife enclosure with birds of prey station invites a walk (refreshment opportunity). After that, nothing stops us from conquering the magnificent expanse of the open landscape of the Dreiborner high plateau (path regulations) with long strides. Here we immerse ourselves in a completely new environment: heath-like, with broom and shrubs, rarely interrupted by small woods, the plateau which served as a military training area until the beginning of the millennium presents itself. Then follows another scene change: after the junction to the Leykaul farm, it goes back into the forest. Together with the Creation Path, we are "On the Trail of Life". On rustic paths, we conquer the steep slopes in the Erkensruhr valley and come across rocks and mining relics. The final sprint to the Rur valley requires little condition and ensures a perfect conclusion to the route.

    Stage 2:
    - Hellenthal (birds of prey station, wildlife enclosure, Oleftal reservoir)
    - Eifel National Park
    - Obersee with boat trip

    Author’s recommendation

A very special experience is the hike at the time of the broom blossom, which transforms the Dreiborner high plateau into a sea of yellow flowers!

From Hellenthal, the path completely leaves the Oleftal and climbs up to the Dreiborner high plateau. From the wildlife enclosure, the path now increasingly leads through the open landscape of meadows and fields until entering the Eifel National Park at Schöneseiffen. Across the wide open land areas, the path reaches the former farm "Leykaul", from where it leads through breathtaking rock passages to Hirschrott in the Erkensruhr valley. From here, the path passes Erkensruhr and then continues through the beautiful beech forests of Dedenborn, where we meet the Eifelsteig and accompany it for a short stretch to Einruhr at Obersee.

Please note: After the meeting of the Rur-Olef-Route and the Eifelsteig, please follow the Eifelsteig signage and markers to the stage destination Einruhr.
