The EXPO circular route was created in 2000 as part of the participation of the wine villages Maikammer, St. Martin, and Kirrweiler as an external project of EXPO 2000 in Hanover. The path, about 26 km in total length, leads through the three wine villages and the surrounding wine landscape. Numerous information boards explain viticultural and landscape-related topics. They report on flood protection measures in the form of idyllic biotopes and draw attention to features along the way that are worth taking a closer look at.

Roadbook
Start and finish of the EXPO circular route Kirrweiler is at the parking lot "In den Forstgärten".
Here stands the first information board on the EXPO theme "Revitalization of unused buildings in the town center through new uses." The Edelhof, built in 1487 as a stable, is a relic of the former medieval Kirrweiler water castle and is today used for cultural events. It formerly housed the so-called "tithe barn."
After crossing the Kropsbach, the path passes the Edelhof and continues up Kirchstraße. On the right is the Catholic church "Kreuzerhöhung" with the Seuffert organ. It was built during the Baroque period (1747) according to plans by the well-known Bruchsal architect Johann Georg Stahl and is already the fourth church on the same site.
At the "landmark" of the village – the village fountain, a replica of the former water castle – the circular route continues to the right, a stretch along the main street, then turns right again at the next junction into Marktstraße. After a sharp zig-zag curve, the path turns left at the old town wall – "Vennninger Tor" – into Brühlweg and then follows the "Wohlfeil" northward to L 515. Here stands the next themed board on the "castle and fortress Kirrweiler." After crossing the road, it continues left, past the cemetery (Attention: unfortunately there is a closure here until 05.09.2022 and the path here leads directly left, which shortens the circular route by about 1 km. There is a local detour recommendation) and then north on the "Achtmorgenweg" to Nickelsee. Here, the theme "vineyard renewal and improvement of operational conditions in viticulture" is addressed. On this section, the event "Grapes and Wine," a wine tasting in the middle of the vineyards, takes place annually on October 3rd.
From Nickelsee, the path leads back south until the first buildings of Kirrweiler appear again. Here, the route turns right on a field path with a wonderful view of the Palatinate Forest and Hambach Castle. At the end, it goes left, a stretch along the highway, across the main road, then immediately right again, following the path until the "castle pond." Here stands the last board with the theme "nature-related flood protection."
The path passes the castle pond, continues a bit along the highway to the next left junction. After about 1 km the path meets Edenkobener Weg. At the fork, it turns left until the path again turns left after about 500 m into the street "Am Schlossgarten." At the next right turn, the path leads back to the starting point parking lot "In den Forstgärten."
