Neuerburg Castle dates back to 1170 and is a kind of prototype of a Staufer castle built by Ludwig II of Thuringia. There are many tales and legends about the Neuerburg and the Fockenbach valley, including a monastery, a glassworks, the devil and a legendary treasure. The platform on the old water tower in Kurtscheid is the highest vantage point in the district of Neuwied. From a total height of around 413 m, the water tower offers an excellent view over large parts of the Middle Rhine region, the Siebengebirge, the Westerwald and also the Hunsrück and the Eifel. The barefoot path is located alongside the kindergarten at the foot of the observation tower.
