Brugg in Aargau also has an Aare Gorge. The special feature is that it is located within the urban area and invites you to an interesting riverside walk.
From the train station in Brugg, stroll through the old town and you will soon reach the Black Tower. It is the oldest building in Brugg and the symbol of the Aare city. The earliest documented mention dates back to 1238. Before turning left at the tower to follow the riverside path, you should walk to the stone bridge and enjoy the beautiful view upstream and downstream of the Aare. This is also the narrowest part of the river between the Aare Gorge near Meiringen and its mouth into the Rhine. From the tower, simply follow the riverside path upstream to the Brunnemühle footbridge, cross the Aare here, and walk a few meters along the opposite bank. Soon you will reach the railway bridge. A walkway is built into its pillars, allowing pedestrians to reach the other side of the Aare again. Along the riverside, follow part of the industrial cultural trail past the former power plant back into the old town.
