The Zwiesel is the rather inconspicuous neighbor of Hochstaufen, but it is one of the very popular hiking mountains in the Reichenhall area. It is not only easy to climb from all sides, but also offers a scenic base that invites you to stop for a break or stay overnight. Beautiful views of the Chiemgau Alps as well as the Reichenhall valley basin are an added bonus.
From the Listsee hiking parking lot, follow the signposting »Zwiesel-Alm« along the wide hiking trail (Listsee signpost) first westwards to Listsee. At the fork at the lake, either continue slightly ascending to the right on the trail until shortly after you meet the Zwiesel path coming up from the left, or go left to the Listanger (wood hut) and then right upwards (signposted). This is also accessible from the parking lot at Schwaigerbauer in Karlstein. The forest road ascends in wide switchbacks. At the junction with the forest road coming up from Jochberg, the Zwiesel path soon turns right off the main forest road and leads in steep switchbacks (partly over the Muli-Steig) up to Zwieselalm. Here two summit routes are offered: Inexperienced hikers take the very frequented path leading north, which goes over the Zennokopf (right summit with cross) in 1.30 hours to the summit of Zwiesel (left summit with cross). Heinrich Bauregger, geboren 1951 im Berchtesgadener Land, studierte Germanistik und Geschichte (M.A.). Nach seinem Studium war er viele Jahre in Buchverlagen tätig (unter anderem auch beim Rother Bergverlag). Von Kindheit an in den Bergen wandernd unterwegs, lebte er seine Passion zunächst in den Alpen aus, dann folgten zahlreiche Trekkingtouren in den Bergen der Welt (Himalaya, Ostafrika, Mexiko, Anden). Schließlich entdeckte er die Abruzzen (Mittelitalien) als seine zweite Heimat („Tra Mare e Monti“). Heute lebt er abwechselnd in München und in Sulmona als freier Lektor und Autor. Er hat zahlreiche erfolgreiche Wander-, Rad- und Reisebücher verfasst.
