Route description

The way to Grand Mountet is basically straightforward. From the village, follow the Navisence upstream and climb via 'le Vichiesso' to the large bridge over the river. Cross the bridge and follow the signposts to the right. You have a climb of 900 meters ahead. Along the way, you will get increasingly spectacular views of the high mountains of the 'Couronne Impériale' and the U-shaped valley carved by the Zinal Glacier.

If you are returning the same day, do not spend too much time at the hut. This way, the descent (exactly the same way back) is also safe.

The new path avoids crossing the Zinal Glacier. The old path passed via Petit Mountet and therefore also crossed the glacier, which meant the hut could only be reached with the accompaniment of guides. The current path was built by the 10th Engineer Battalion between 1986 and 1989, the year of the inauguration.
