Several times on this circular hike, you can stop at typical Valais mountain inns. And at the end of the route, the walk through the Gorner Gorge provides some excitement.
A picture like from a calendar! Sun-tanned barns and storehouses, lush meadows and above that shines the Matterhorn. It is because of this scenery that people come to Zermatt. And also because of the many mountain restaurants. The path up to Zmutt is truly a show route – and as if there weren’t enough to marvel at already, it is also equipped with information boards. The "Matterhorn Trail", a themed route, puts the famous mountain at the center with stories. The hamlet of Zmutt is also like a calendar picture. It looks a bit like an open-air museum. The 500-year-old wooden houses cluster closely together; there is a chapel and two restaurants: Z’Mutt and Jägerstube. We stop in at Z’Mutt; they serve goulash, spaetzle, and for dessert a meringue. After eating, we cross the dam over the Zmuttbach and stroll to Furi, the mid station of the gondola "Matterhorn Express".
