In the Lower Saxon part of the Harz, the Wurmberg rises the highest – not quite up to 1000 meters above sea level, but still very scenic. Of course, the Brocken is prominently in view opposite. On clear days, you can see far beyond the edges of the Harz. Those who want to climb the Wurmberg on their own power rather than taking the cable car should be prepared for a bit of a detour. The most beautiful sections are in the idyllic gorge of the Warm Bode as well as partly along the Kuhlagerweg. However, you have to live with the mass tourism takeover of the summit.
From the Wurmbergbahn in Braunlage, initially towards Brockenwegschanze, just before which cross the arched bridge to the left side of the Warm Bode, where a beautiful, natural path runs. You stay close to the babbling brook that shows smaller steps at the Lower and Upper Bode Waterfalls. After about an hour, we cross the Bärenbrücke at a shelter, approx. 708 m, and continue the ascent on the right side of the gorge via a forest road (no. 35D). Mark Zahel
