The short hike still allows plenty of time at the beginning for a visit to Rapperswil. There are the pretty old town alleys, the rose gardens, and the Mediterranean atmosphere on Lake Zurich. You can even take a boat across to the island of Ufenau. It is the largest island in Switzerland not connected to the mainland by a bridge. The castle of Rapperswil sits on a hill above the old town and offers a beautiful view over Lake Zurich. At the deer park on the castle hill, children particularly enjoy themselves. The path runs briefly along the lake and then reaches the wooden bridge at the signpost by the "Pilgerplätzli". Named "Pilgerplätzli" likely because the 4th stage of the ViaJacobi, the Swiss Way of St. James, starts here. It leads from Rapperswil over the Etzel Pass to Einsiedeln Monastery.
