The Woblitz Loop Trail owes its name to a small canal that connects the Lychen Lake District with the Himmelpfort waterways and, consequently, the Havel River. The shoreline areas are often marshy, so the trail runs at a some distance from the shore. On the loop trail, you’ll hike through a beautiful mixed forest—featuring some ancient, majestic trees—and pass several lakes. The hike begins in Lychen at the Berliner Straße parking lot (war memorial). The “green bar” sign points the way out of town toward Fürstenberg. Once you’ve left town, you’ll go through the underpass and later pass a vacation home community on your way to the shore of the Großer Lychensee. On the paved path to the left, right next to the lake shore, the trail leads through sparse mixed deciduous forest to Woblitz and continues—now away from the water—across a hilly terminal moraine landscape to the village of Pian. Here, on the right along the shore of Moderfitzsee, you’ll pass a beautiful rest area with a shelter and a swimming spot, heading toward Himmelpfort, where there’s plenty to discover: a chocolate shop, Santa’s Post Office, the ruins of the Cistercian monastery with its park, the herb garden… Continuing past the lock and following the trail markers, the paved section soon transitions back into an easily walkable, shaded forest path. Through the Mellensee Nature Reserve, past the Brennickenswerder vacation park; here, head slightly left toward the Großer Lychensee. Following the lakeside path brings you back to Lychen. Behind the beach, you’ll go under and over two bridges to the Stadtsee; after passing the boat dock, you’ll reach the starting point after 200 meters.
