On this highland-like excursion, you will repeatedly come across streams that support two different river systems. For example, the Waldbach and Scheidbach streams flow towards the Iller and thus the Danube, while the Speckbach and the source stream of the Wengener Argen near Rechtis feed the Rhine.
At the bus stop in the small hamlet of Schwarzerd, 905 m, we take the cycle path from Kempten in the direction of Weitnau and change at a shelter to the forest path leading sharply downhill to the left. The easy path later runs along the Waldbach stream through the Wirlinger Wald forest. At the crossroads after a stream bridge, look out for the "Rechtis" sign and take the path towards Hellengerst, past the Breitenmoos nature reserve. This route crosses the Scheidenbach and leads under the B 12. The long forest loop ends where we meet a crossroads. Turning right onto the low-traffic asphalt road, we walk along the Schönleitenmoos nature reserve to the Weitnau district of Hellengerst, 949 m above sea level. The Grünten and the mountains of the Daumengruppe can be seen above the damp forest lowlands.
