Safety information
Our hiking and cycling paths mostly run on so-called agricultural roads. These are used for agricultural purposes and are driven on all year round by tractors and harvesting machines. We point out that using the paths is at your own risk and ask cyclists, hikers, and vintners to show mutual consideration in the interest of all. The agricultural roads may be dirty due to agricultural traffic. After rainy days and especially in winter, the paths can be wet and slippery.

From the historic town hall in Freinsheim, proceed through the market square and the city gate "Eisentor" southwards towards Weisenheimer Straße. Follow this road to the end, past the Netto market, and along a section of the bike path until you reach the street. Cross it (caution: no crossing aid) and walk about 250 m straight ahead on an unpaved path. Turn right, reach the street again, walk parallel to it for a few meters, then keep left again heading north, passing the rainwater retention basin until the next junction. Now turn right towards Weisenheim am Sand. Pass the tennis courts, turn right into "Im Diehl" and continue to Ritter-von-Geißler-Straße. Follow this eastwards to the Vinothek Schick (1st pilgrimage station).
Continue towards the town center. From the fountain at Obertor (roundabout), turn right, walk along Bahnhofstraße past the train station and shortly before leaving the town, turn right into "Ziegelhütte". At the end of the buildings, keep slightly right, pass the riding stable and come to Sandhasenweg 3, which you follow rightwards heading south.
At the end of the path, keep right and then follow the Kraut und Rüben cycle path to Erpolzheim. Turn left into von-Maurer-Straße. At the end, cross the main street and follow it on the right sidewalk straight ahead to the end of the bridge. At the wooden sign, turn right onto the path along the "Isenach" creek. Follow the creek to the sign "Im Kitzig". Here again turn right to the Kohl winery in Georg-Amend-Straße (2nd pilgrimage station).
Heading back to Freinsheim, walk a short stretch left along Bahnhofstraße then turn right into Burgunderstraße. Continue over the Schlittgraben through the vineyards in a northwest direction towards Freinsheim. Pass the cemetery and enter the town via Friedhofstraße.
