Windspitze and Mittager

From Piffinger Köpfl (2010 m; mountain stations of the cable car from Naif near Meran as well as the circular cable car from Falzeben near Hafling) along paths 17 and 14, mostly flat through forest and meadows in 3/4 hrs to Kirchsteiger Alm (here the eponymous inn and the Meran hut of the South Tyrolean Alpine Club, 1945 m and 1980 m respectively; both operated); now either by chairlift up to the Kleine Mittager (approx. 2300 m) or from the Meran hut on trail 13 over grassy slopes in 3/4 hrs up to the Mittager hut (2260 m; operated) near the chairlift station. Then almost level to the foot of the Windspitze and on a marked path a short climb to its summit cross (2392 m; about 2 hrs from the starting point; about 1 1/2 hrs using the chairlift). Then descend briefly eastwards into a small notch and on an easy trail in 15 minutes to the summit plateau of the Großer Mittager (2422 m). – Descent: At the west ridge of the Windspitze at the signpost turn right, on path 13 crossing the slopes
