Wertachtal-Maria Rain circular hike

You leave the car park of the Tourist Information Nesselwang at its rear to the left and turn right at the next street, Von-Lingg-Straße. At the mini golf course, the route leads left to the Alpspitz-Bade-Center and continues past the sports field, then along a good footpath towards the district of Hammerschmiede. Upon reaching the houses, turn right towards the Wertachtal and at the next fork in the road, take the right path again towards the Wertachtal. Now you walk a good stretch along the Wertach until a bridge leads to the other side. Here you turn left and follow the path past the former coal mining tunnel up to the high bank of the Wertach, where you reach a farm track. Follow this track left to Maria Rain with its pilgrimage church.

At the church, a small road leads slightly uphill to the right to the Almcafé Schnakenhöhe, which invites you to stop for a break. Slightly above the café, follow the farm track which leads downhill to the left and is not signposted. At a small group of trees, take the footpath to the right, which soon reaches a farm track that continues downhill to the left. When you reach the road at the village of Rainen, follow the signs to the Wertachtal and the path leading further downhill to the river. Walk along the Wertach to the wooden bridge which takes you back to the other side of the river, then follow the known path back to Hammerschmiede. Here stay straight on the paved road, which leads past the cemetery back to the centre of Nesselwang.
