Usually with a picture and inscription, they commemorate people or events from the area and the history of their location. The impetus for their erection was mainly a vow, a personal day of fate, but also out of gratefulness towards God. Many small monuments can also be regarded as wayside and field monuments. They determine the respective landscape and are by no means an insignificant part of a cultural landscape. They often serve as trail markers and were distinctive landmarks for cart drivers, churchgoers, and hikers. They are not artistically as significant as the large monuments but are still remarkable gems of local craftsmanship, often designed with conceptual clarity.
Thanks to all owners who make it their concern to care for and preserve these gems. (Franz Wasserbauer sen. 2017)
