In front of the village center of Oberkirchen, we walk up the village street to the inn "Zur Talbrücke." There we turn left into Weiselbergstraße and follow it steeply uphill to the water treading facility "Lampendell."
Past this water treading facility, our path then immediately leads right through the underpass of the former railway line Türkismühle-Kusel. Behind the underpass, we turn right and follow this path for about 300 m. Then we turn left again and shortly reach the circular route around the Weiselberg. Along this path, we also pass the so-called "Stone Sea," which horseshoes around a large part of the southern slope of the Weiselberg. There we find an accumulation of huge boulders made of the so-called Weiselberg gneiss. From here, you can also attempt the ascent to the plateau of the Weiselberg. A narrow path leads steeply uphill through the Stone Sea, where after about 30 minutes we reach the summit of the Weiselberg and the shelter located there. The Mayor-Grieshammer tunnel, still present there, bears witness to military facilities on the summit of the Weiselberg from World War II. The tunnel is blocked and therefore no longer accessible. From the shelter, heading northward along a comfortable hiking path, we reach the circular route around the Weiselberg again. Those who do not want to take the steep ascent to the Weiselberg from the Stone Sea have the option to reach the summit right at the beginning of the circular hiking trail on the path chosen for the descent. Those who only want to hike the circular route reach the starting point at the parking lot in the village center after about 1 ½ hours.
